Navyblue has been appointed as brand consultant by the Oman Airports Management Company to create an umbrella brand across the company’s airports.

The consultancy was appointed last month following a pitch process lasting more than a year. A Navyblue spokeswoman says its credentials for the appointment were helped by its rebranding of Newcastle Airport in 2004.

The project involves creating a new brand and identity to be applied to OAMC’s two existing airports, four that are due to be built by 2014, and a new brand and identity for Muscat International’s airport city concept. It will be seen across all signage and collateral.

Jenny Smith, Navyblue creative director on the project, says, ’We’ll be working on this project and the brand extension for the next year. There are very set timings and dates. They chose Navyblue because they know they can rely on the delivery.’

Navyblue has carried out a workshop with the OAMC management team to discuss ’brand hierarchy’. Simon Shaw is leading the team creatively in the UK, with Smith leading the Oman-based Navyblue team.

Smith adds, ’It’s an amazing opportunity to be allowed to design something that is the infrastructure of a country. There’s not a lot to build on, so the responsibility is there to set the standard.’
