Shirana Shahbazi

Shirana Shahbazi is an Iranian woman who was born in 1974 in Tehran and moved to Germany in 1985. Her photographs have been most recently seen at London’s Photographers’ Gallery, where they were well-received for their depictions of contemporary Iran. Yet, they are more than documentary cityscapes. Shahbazi’s photographs work in groups as part of a larger installation, to create a non-spectacular, but dynamic mosaic of the city that represents the contradictions and fissures of contemporary life.

The winner of the Citigroup Private Bank Photography Prize 2002 will be announced on 28 February at the Photographers’ Gallery, 5 and 8 Great Newport Street, London WC2. The exhibition runs from 1 February until 31 March
