Spires points to Fraser signage

Hereford Hospital staff and visitor restaurant The Spires opens on 23 January, with signage and graphics created by Fraserdesign for £25 000.

The restaurant is run by catering giant Sodexho. Signage was created to sit alongside the company’s twin food-service themes of Explorers (food from around the world) and Traditions (typical British food).

Interiors have been created by Lockhart Design. ‘Cutting edge design was needed for the branding to reflect the modern nature of the building and provide a relaxing change of environment for staff,’ says Sodexho project manager Simon Redsull.

‘Sodexho wanted the food services to look and feel different to what has gone before and the restaurant to appeal to staff. They have got to want to eat there,’ says Fraserdesign account manager Mike Sillwood.

Acrylic panels contain close-up polaroid shots of cooking ingredients and utensils for the different food areas, he says. The images have been peeled off the photographic paper to appear suspended within the panels.

The panels are complemented by large, bold wall lettering, blocks of dark blue and orange colouring and wall-board photographs of old hospitals in Hereford, to remind staff of their old places of work, says Redsull.

The project began in August, and is part of Fraserdesign’s ongoing relationship with Sodexho.
