Treo literature given Gyro’s spin

Gyro has designed the Europe-wide marketing literature for the Treo, a mobile phone/palm organiser hybrid, which launches early next month.

The consultancy won the six-figure graphics project without a pitch, based on the strength of previous work with Handspring. Treo was designed in-house at manufacturer Handspring, by a team fronted by Handspring founder Jeff Hawkins and head of design Peter Skillman.

‘Treo is the next big thing in mobile communications,’ says Gyro senior creative director Darren Bolton.

The device combines a mobile phone with wireless e-mail, text messaging, Internet access and a palm organiser, so people can carry ‘a single device instead of two or three’, says Hawkins. It is designed to be ‘no bigger than a stack of cards’.

Treo features a transparent clear window on its ‘flip lid’ so users can see who is calling, read messages and e-mails and check the calendar with the lid closed.

It is designed in a steel blue colourway and will feature accessories which include belt clips and a desk ‘cradle’.
