It’s show time

It’s not hard to find something to enjoy this week – the sunshine, the World Cup (perhaps), Wimbledon or a festival. But if you fancy a more cerebral and imaginative way to enhance your week then look no further than a graduate show or two.

In the last couple of weeks degree shows across the country have been filling up the Design Week calendar in abundance. And the following week is set to be no different. Here is a round-up of student shows for your diaries.

Unfortunately, most of the graduate shows and awards are not releasing images beforehand – so we can’t even give you a sneak peak. You’ll just have to go visit them instead.

I2I, 24 June, Central St Martins Innovation Centre

Innovations to Industry 2010 is where creativity meets business. This annual event takes place on the 24 June at the Central St Martins Innovation Centre. MA Innovation Management students will choose six final degree projects, alongside industry representatives and experts, to discuss these inspiring ideas and explore different ways of successfully taking them to market.

New Blood, 25-28 June, Old Truman Brewery

Every year D&AD’s New Blood showcases graduates from more than 50 different courses across the UK’s top universities. The hottest new talent from graphic design, visual communication, advertising, digital media, illustration and photography will be on display in Shoreditch’s Old Truman Brewery.

Future of Architecture, 26 June to 17 July, Architectural Association

The Architectural Association School’s Projects Review exhibition opens this weekend in the school’s newly expanded Bedford Square campus.  Hundreds of drawings, models, installations and photographs will be on display from over 650 students, which provide a snapshot of the latest radical and experimental thinking in architecture.

D&AD Student Awards, 29 June, Old Spitalfields Market

If you fancy celebrating amongst new creative talent, pop down to the D&AD Student awards at London’s Spitalfields Market next week. Eighty-three student teams have been nominated for the illustrious Pencil.

Pure, 30 June, Central St Martins Innovation Centre

Central St Martins are having a busy week – next Wednesday you can find out who’s won Pure’s radio design competition and view students’ work from its College of Art and Design.

New Designers, Part One is on from 1-4 July, with Part Two from 8-11 July,
Business Design Centre

And finally, some 3500 newly minted designers representing 200 design courses congregate at the two weeks of New Designers, which kicks off with a party on 30 June. It’s about ’vibrant content, celebration and reputation’, say organisers, and this year designer and writer Sophie Conran and design champion Michael Wolff with be the esteemed event openers – not to be missed.

    A lot of talent like usual but a school that otherwise gets pushed aside id the Hull school of art and design. Please drop by have a chat and see what they have to offer to the scene.
