Cook Museum picks Redman

Designs for refurbishment of the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum in Middlesbrough by Ilkley-based Redman Design are now emerging.

The contract was won by Redman Design following a limited competition held by Middlesbrough Council and the Trustees of the museum. The three consultancies shortlisted – Redman Design, Haley Sharpe Associates and Richard Fowler Associates – were paid to prepare a written and visual response.

Redman also helped in preparation for the successful bid for a 800 000 grant for the museum, obtained in August 1995 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The new look museum is set to open in summer 1997.
