Richard Seymour could rant for England

It’s good to see the healthy tension between advertising and design unearthed and reinforced. In a recent Independent profile of celebrity product designers Richard Seymour and Dick Powell, Powell recalls Seymour’s loathing of a much earlier job in advertising.

‘All I am is a glorified Filofax,’ Seymour moaned. ‘There’s no sense of permanence to anything we do. It’s all so ephemeral and transient. Who gives a stuff about this or that ad? If I ever get really fed-up, can I come and rent desk-space from you?’ Now that’s a rant-and-a-half.
