BBC to ground balloon ident?

BBC1 controller Lorraine Heggessey has issued a death sentence to Lambie-Nairn’s hot air balloon on-screen ident.

BBC1 controller Lorraine Heggessey has issued a death sentence to Lambie-Nairn’s hot air balloon on-screen ident.

Heggessey, who assumed the role three months ago, has made public her desire to kill it off for being slow and irrelevant to viewers in a newspaper interview.

A BBC spokesman says: “No decisions [about the future of the balloon logo] have yet been taken. [Heggessey] has made no secret of the fact that she is addressing every aspect [of BBC1’s look].”

However, in an apparent contradiction, the spokesman adds that the BBC is “looking to refresh itself creatively” and that the marketing team is “just beginning to look at the logo to see if it still stands or needs to be changed”.

Lambie-Nairn refuses to comment on the subject.
