Ex-DIA directors take Creative Leap forward

Three former directors of Design In Action are building a new consultancy in a joint venture with retail and leisure interiors outfit Torres Group.

Ex-creative director Mark Chittenden, brands director Trevor Bradford and planning director David Gray have formed The Creative Leap, a new “brand development and communication” group.

Chittenden and Gray accepted redundancy earlier this year. Bradford resigned last month over the restructure which saw Chittenden and Gray depart (DW 28 June).

The DIA trio and Torres were introduced by an intermediary, says Torres Group managing director David Lett: “It seems a natural adjunct to have brand strategy and packaging as part of our offer.”

Torres Group and each of the former DIA directors hold a quarter of the new company’s equity.

Bradford says The Creative Leap has already secured clients and projects, including restaurant branding for South African

Breweries and a strategic brief from Ferrosan, owner of the Healthcrafts brand of vitamins.

The group is using Torres’ existing graphic designers. “But if it carries on at this rate, it’s likely we will be looking around for key creative people,” says Bradford.
