Born with a greasy spoon in his mouth

It may surprise those of you unfamiliar with motormouth clockwork radio inventor Trevor Bayliss, to learn that he is not a great gourmet.

In a restaurant article in last week’s Independent, Bayliss revealed: ‘I’m not going to pretend I go to some posh restaurant in town. Some people use that as a form of calling card, but I’ve never been one for it,’ he says. ‘As regular as clockwork [radios], I have a piece of toast with two grilled tomatoes, a rasher of bacon each side with a little dash of brown sauce, and followed by a round of toast and marmalade and a cup of tea. That’s 3.20, and I also bung 50p in the tin for the girls,’ he adds.
