Blue Goose partner John Vollands must be counting his lucky stars after a recent near-death experience.
Jumping from 5000m into California’s Perris Valley, his parachute failed to open and no amount of tugging and swearing would open the damn thing. In fact, it distracted him from what he should have been doing – opening his reserve parachute.
Luckily, he remembered to open it just in time. ‘It was almost worth it,’ says Vollands, ‘because I landed to a hero’s welcome. Normally the Perris Valley lot are a bit aloof.’
