Makeover for Thunderbirds merchandise

Cult TV show Thunderbirds is getting a new look and feel for its merchandising, following a redesign by Myriad Creative. The design group has completed a style guide for the show’s new owner, Carlton International, which has just acquired the full catalogue of creator Gerry Anderson’s characters, including Stingray, Captain Scarlet and Joe 90.

With the original Thunderbirds series set for re-release, Myriad was appointed by Carlton to design a contemporary merchandising style guide. Myriad Creative director Nick Paterson-Jones says: ‘The original graphics have a real Sixties feel which wouldn’t fit with today’s retail market. Carlton asked us to update the logo, rationalise the existing material and produce concepts for packaging.’ There are also plans for relaunching Captain Scarlet as a computer-generated animation for broadcast.
