Puffin Books will publish a hardback edition of the Nut Cracker, illustrated by Jan Pienkowski and designed in-house by Puffin deputy art director Goldy Broad, next month.

1 Puffin Books will publish a hardback edition of the Nut Cracker, illustrated by Jan Pienkowski and designed in-house by Puffin deputy art director Goldy Broad, next month. The book contains a multilayered, laser-cut tableau of silhouettes at the back of the book, created in the style of traditional German papercraft.

2 Redman Design has created displays and visitor experiences for the £20m revamped Leeds City Museum, which has opened to the public this week. 

3 Interior designer Ilse Crawford is making her first foray into accessories, with a limited-edition weekend bag for Volvo. The Scandinavian-style bag, which opens up like a suitcase with an inner bag, launches this week.

4 The new home of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales -BBC Hoddinott Hall, designed by the Cardiff office of Capita Architecture – opens this week at the Wales Millennium Centre.

5 The Design Museum is hosting an exhibition of porcelain pieces by Patricia Urquiola. Purely Porcelain was designed by Fernando Gutiérrez. It runs from 10 October to 25 January 2009.
