Talent and quality of service before size

As a director of a small consultancy in the Borders region of Scotland, I’d like to comment on the recent VoxPop regarding the importance of consultancy size (DW 5 April).

Our employees all have their own strengths in key areas of the industry whether it is design, art direction, exhibitions or PR, but it is this spread of skills that gives us the flexibility to meet our clients’ needs, regardless of the size of their demands. Our clients’ decisions, I’d imagine, are based on our talent/ quality of service and not on the number of employees. We also have the hurdle of being based outside Edinburgh and Glasgow – allegedly the design Meccas of this country.

However, we still attract accounts such as The British Wool Textile Export Corporation, Save the Children Scotland, The National Trust for Scotland evidence that clearly supports the phrase “the best things come in little packages”.
