What you won’t read is that one of Newark’s main concerns is that the man behind the ‘insidious’ new class labels, Professor David Rose, is from the University of Essex. This gives rise to the indisputable fact that ‘civil servants are entrusting a new class system to a man from Essex’.

‘Essex is a place that represents the erosion of class, or what happens when the working class becomes middle class,’ Newark says.

Ironically, our impassioned columnist is himself an Essex man, from Romford.
