Try to see the big, convention-challenging picture

I write with regard to your VoxPop about what product designers can show Web designers (DW 19 April).

Combining functionality and form gives designers an understanding of how users navigate between the dormant, background stuff you know you might need later and the active touchy-feely bits you need right now.

You can’t design a product without a detailed, and perhaps convention-challenging picture in your head about how people will use it.

I’m sure it’s a view shared by many Web designers, but don’t use the technology just because it’s there, find out what the value to the user is.

As product designers have always said, less is more.
