Space station plan for the Dome

The latest announcement by the New Millennium Experience Company of the planned contents of the Millennium Dome in Greenwich promises a virtual outer-space journey.

Visitors to the attraction, which will be called the Home Planet Zone, created by Park Avenue Productions, will travel from a space station, Intergalatwick, in a “British Spaceways” capsule. They will then be taken on a journey which ends at the earth’s core. “Passengers” will be accompanied by two aliens, called Gaia and Max, designed by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, the creator of the Muppets. Additional special effects are designed by Artem. The zone is sponsored by British Airways and BAA.

Creative review group chairman Michael Grade says, “The involvement of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop working with NMEC’s creative team will produce a visitor experience that will be fun and informative.”

BAA chairman Sir John Egan says, “We have been involved in the project from the start and see Home Planet as one of the key attractions which will make the Dome the focal point of world millennium celebrations.”
