Dome selection process shows appalling lack of direction

We commiserate with our anonymous fellow designer (Dome wasted my company’s time with selection process, DW Letters, 20 February).

As a small company, we at Edit count the cost of free-pitching and occasionally suffer for our size in competitive tenders.

However, I am appalled that Millennium Central asked design groups to tender without supplying them with a written brief.

We work on many high-profile public sector contracts, such as the National Probation Convention and the report of the National Committee of Inquiry into Higher Education.

Some clients have occasionally written unclear briefs which we work on with them to clarify and rewrite.

However, we have never been asked to submit a tender without any brief at all; it is unprecedented in our ten years experience of the public sector.
