They don’t know their Rs from their engines

The RCA vehicle design course may set its students on the road to a glittering career. But it would seem that many have suffered from over-specialisation, and have only a slight grasp of the three Rs.

RCA rector Christopher Frayling feared a rash of double entendres when one of his students pointed out that “I, Rector” was an anagram of “erotica”. Except, of course, it isn’t. “The student is obviously illiterate,” joked Frayling afterwards.

Was the same student responsible for the exhibit labels at the RAC-sponsored Vehicle Design Final Show last week? Does anybody at the RAC know what an internal conbustion engine is?
