First glimpse of Dome contents

The New Millennium Experience Company today unveils the design for the Millennium Dome’s Mind Zone, created by architect Zaha Hadid.

Visitors will enter the multi-level zone by passing under a giant central projection screen and climb up towards the Dome’s roof.

“[The design] is composed of several bands that interweave with each other and then curve round on themselves. Distinctions between floors, walls and ceilings disappear,” says Hadid. The image has been rendered by design group Hayes Davidson.

An NMEC spokesman says the Mind Zone is intended to “celebrate the unique creativity of the human brain by exploring the nature of our senses and perception”. He says the sponsor of the zone is yet to be confirmed and that its contents have not been finalised. He will give no details on the likely timescale for the resolution of either issue.

The NMEC is also unveiling the concepts for the Body Zone, created by HP:ICM and Branson Coates director Nigel Coates, and the design of the overall floor plan for the Dome.
