Designers create limited edition Christmas wrapping paper for charity
The Beautiful Meme and Don’t Panic are among 12 design studios that have been commissioned to create special wrapping paper, with the money going to help those out in the cold this festive season.
Design studios have come together to create special edition Christmas wrap, which will be sold to raise money for London’s homeless people and those in need this Winter.
The project has been organised by charity Hands On London alongside creative network Ask Us For Ideas (AUFI), which commissioned 12 studios to design bespoke wrapping paper designs.
All proceeds will go towards the community development charity’s Wrap Up London campaign, an initiative to help provide vulnerable people and rough-sleepers in London with warm clothes.
The designs are not all strictly festive-inspired, with various motifs, illustrations, patterns and typography making their way onto the paper.
Examples include a repeating motif of streaky bacon, an illustrative depiction of hip-hop artists like Tupac and Snoop Dogg, and text-based wrapping paper featuring quips and phrases, such as “So many likes when all you need is love”.
Contributing studios include The Beautiful Meme, Don’t Panic, DixonBaxi, Lowrie and Belgium-based Base Design.
The designs have been printed on “fully recyclable” GF Smith Colorplan paper, in a bid to address how wrapping paper is “one of the festive season’s biggest polluters”, says Nick Bell, co-founder at AUFI. Printing has been completed by Harvey Lloyd Screens.
Bell says the wrapping paper sheets are “more like limited edition prints”, given the paper used and the designers behind them.
The 12 wrapping papers are currently being sold as a pack for £42 from Wrap Up London’s campaign website.
