Shh goes to work on noodle bar

Architectural and design consultancy Shh has created the identity and interiors for new central London noodle bar, Ichizen, which opened last week.

‘The clients wanted a young, happening place,’ says Graham Harris, managing director of Shh. ‘Trying to put that across in architectural terms was an interesting challenge.’

The designer was limited by the building’s location, in a conservation area, and the size of the space itself, just 110m2. Designed for maximum adaptability, the interior has a total capacity of 88 people.

The identity and graphics were typographically inspired by the Japanese ‘chok’ or name stamp motif.
