Commonwealth Club redesign

The Commonwealth Trust has appointed Morey Smith Associates to design the new Commonwealth Club on London’s Northumberland Avenue.

The Trust has sold its building to the French developer Airc, which is redeveloping the site to include a 200-bedroom hotel next to the new club. Architect RHWL has designed Airc’s plans.

The new club is due to open in mid-1997 and will offer members a 150-seater dining room and brasserie, as well as four or five private function and seminar rooms. There will also be offices for the trust’s charitable work.

Linda Morey Smith, managing director of the consultancy, says: “Our concept for the club is a very contemporary solution to project the Commonwealth Trust into the next century.”
