Applications are invited for a two-stage competition to design light-fittings for a new range of energy-saving lamps.

Organised by the lamp manufacturer Sylvania and supported by Design Week, the brief centres on the Lynx Energy Saver lamp which is suitable for commercial and domestic lighting. A first prize of ú5000 will be awarded, with second and third prizes of ú3000 and ú2000 respectively.

The top 20 designs will be shown at the 1996 Hanover Fair.

Judges, who include Concord Lighting design director Janet Turner and Design Week editor Lynda Relph-Knight, will be looking for a functional luminaire design, displaying creative ideas and technical feasibility.
