Torres Design opens office in Bangkok

Torres Design is opening an office in Bangkok in a joint venture with Totem, the European design network, to take advantage of Thailand’s leisure and retail opportunities.

The office, which is to open on 1 May, will be headed by Caroline Hancock, formerly marketing director at Torres Design in London.

“I am hoping to form a team of five local and British designers very quickly,” says Hancock. “It is not practical or cost-effective to service clients in Thailand from the UK.”

Thailand’s design potential includes “traditional” pubs, restaurants, shopping centres and golf courses, Hancock says. “There is an aspirational desire towards the Western influence.”

From Bangkok, Hancock also hopes to be able to move into the Vietnamese market: “Vietnam is very underdeveloped and Thailand is a good point of communications.”

Walker Izard has designed the 1994 Annual Report for Cornhill Insurance released last week.
