Menswear retailer to redress retail format

Menswear retailer Fosters Trading Company has brought back John Herbert Partnership to update the retail format the consultancy designed in 1991.

Experimental work is currently on the drawing board, and will be unveiled in the Cardiff branch of the 250-strong chain.

The existing Fosters store format will continue to be rolled out, with the updated format intended for large “mothership” stores, says JHP director Raj Wilkinson.

The move has been prompted by sales improvements at the flagship Birmingham branch of Fosters. Issues such as the vertical circulation of customers are among those being addressed in the redesign.

Fosters, formerly part of the Sears group, is thought to be investing heavily in the project. It aims to be “the best menswear retailer in the UK by the year 2000”, according to JHP.
