Nike – not much of a shining example to us

I also saw the first of BBC 2’s new series Branded covering the story of Nike (Comment, DW 21 February). While the quality of the company’s products cannot be ignored, neither can the fact that it exploits cheap labour, which, I would suggest, is also a factor in its financial growth.

Leadership, quality and conviction are indeed commendable principles in any company, but dare I suggest that ethics might be added to Lynda Relph-Knight’s list? Perhaps I ask too much from the design industry, although I am not convinced that Anita Roddick would be happy with the suggestion that her company is also doing it the Nike way.
