US group seeks UK interior designers

An acquisitive US hotel group is on the hunt for a UK designer to “revolutionise interior design” as it renovates more than 70 properties in its portfolio. The salary attached to the position is rumoured to be 200 000.

Starwood Lodging Trust is after someone to input design into the revamps as well as bring in consultancies and oversee projects.

“We are looking for someone to revolutionise hotel design,” says a spokeswoman for Starwood Lodging Trust chairman and chief executive officer Barry Sternlicht. Starwood is focusing its search on the UK as it has more interesting designers than the US, says the spokeswoman.

The post could also include overseeing the branding of the portfolio, from lobbies and interiors to a new corporate identity.

The refurbishments of the Starwood-owned Sheratons, Ritz Carltons and independently named hotels should be completed in three years. Sternlicht hopes to own 150 hotels by the year 2000.
