Yamaha theatre suite simplifies surround sound

Yamaha today unveils its latest home theatre sound suite, the YSP 1 Digital Sound Projector, designed by the company’s in-house team in Tokyo.

The design is intended to minimise connections and eliminate the need for multiple speakers. The entire system is housed within a single unit, containing 42 digital amplifiers that drive 40 4cm full-range speakers and two woofers.

‘The one-box solution solves many issues with aesthetics and performance, [with] a three-button set-up and no speaker wires,’ claims Yamaha technical product manager Terry Murphy.

The use of 42 individual speakers allows the sound of each to be delayed relative to the others. This facilitates the generation of 5.1 surround sound from a single unit, rather than from many speakers placed around the room.
