Charity group Oxfam has expanded into Germany with a new shop designed by Huddersfield consultancy Planet.

Oxfam plans to have between three and four shops open by the end of the year, following a successful Frankfurt pilot. “Oxfam is planning to make the Frankfurt store a style-setter for a continuing programme of retail units through out Germany,” says Planet director Owen Bulmer.

Bulmer says the Germany concept provided the consultancy with an opportunity to “start with a clean sheet in terms of concept for Oxfam. It gave us an opportunity to professionalise what in the UK has been an erratic concept development. Oxfam has 850 shops in the UK, interiors for which have been born out of various sources and which have created a mish mash of looks across the chain”.

The concept had to “familiarise the Oxfam concept in Germany, where it is a fairly unknown organisation”, says Bulmer.
