The in-house design team of Apple Computer – headed by Briton Jonathan Ive – is hoping to emulate the widespread design awards success of the iMac with its new Power Mac G4 Cube. Measuring just 20cm square, the new model crams G4 computing power into a minimalist package. Unique stereo speakers developed for Apple by Harmon/ Kardon have been created for the G4 Cube, which will also benefit from a new mouse and keyboard combination. Apple is the first computer company to offer an optical mouse – with no moving parts – as standard equipment with all its models. The company’s new range includes a twin processor G4, and a new selection of colours for the popular iMac.
