Surrey’s Bingham hotel is putting the finishing touches to a two-year refurbishment programme, unveiling a redesigned restaurant, bar and reception area by design consultancy Caulder Moore.
The privately owned boutique hotel in Richmond appointed Caulder Moore in October last year, following a three-way creative pitch.
Bingham proprietor Samantha Trinder says, ‘The redesign was prompted partly by our taking on a new chef, which resulted in the need to provide a better dining experience.
‘We gave Caulder Moore a detailed brief to create a “destination” restaurant, with a layered, soft look. Our previous wallpaper was black, so we wanted to go with a much more neutral colour scheme punctuated by striking pieces of furniture,’ she adds.
The consultancy’s interior designer Jane McIver responded by creating several large furniture items, including a high-backed leather sofa, a curved corner sofa and a love seat. She also commissioned the Contract Chair Company to source several other items.
The restaurant now features an abstract patterned carpet in cream and gold, as well as cream walls and chandeliers. The bar has been extended and clad in mirrored, reeded glass.
The Bingham underwent a redesign of its 15 bedrooms in 2006 by design group Green Hutchings. Trinder says, ‘The past two years have been taken up with redesigns, but this represented the last leg of that process.’
