Patrick Wilson – a friend of design, and a straight talker
It was with real sadness that I read of the death of Patrick Wilson in Design Week . The letter from Greg Quinton (DW 14 October) captures Patrick’s character and passion for design perfectly.
Since 1994 we regularly asked for his support in promoting design to Welsh industry and he always responded positively, his down-to-earth charm getting the message across in a way that was often as subtle as a brick – but no one ever left the room in any doubt that investment in design made perfect business sense.
I last saw him in 2008 as he arrived at the Wales Millennium Centre for another of his many awards. The reception staff asked ’Are you here for the Design Management Europe Awards, sir?’ His instant response was, ’No, I’m here to bloody win one’, which, of course, he did.
