Swinging into action with able seamen of the future

Leafing through our maritime forces’ Future Navy document, as the crew of Interbrand Inside have no doubt been doing (News, DW 21 August), we were intrigued to see what the shipmates call their ‘enabling concept’.

‘Swing’, for that is the term, is ‘the ability to configure a force, formation or unit to allow it to operate successfully, and cost-effectively, across a range of mission types and roles’.

Such transactional skills have always been vital below deck, says our seafaring source Roger de Cabin-Boy, who points out that good cadets swing several ways.

Did we hear a groan? Shiver me timbers.
