Moribund members are to be blamed for downward spiral

I have been trying extremely hard to resist joining the Chartered Society of Designers/ Design Business Association debate, but alas have failed.

The fact is societies and associations consist largely of their members, and in my experience, those members are generally the moribund ones.

Whether this is due to work pressure or apathy is irrelevant, the result is the same. Demoralised administration partly results from the actions or non-actions of its members. Then a downward spiral is induced.

If we want “representation” then we have to support it, not just whinge about its shortcomings. We can’t blame others, and our membership fees should be seen less as payment for service, and more as an entry fee for participation.
