RIBA Awards honour the arts

The Royal Institute of British Architects announced 53 winners in its annual regional awards.

Winners include the extension to London’s National Portrait Gallery by Dixon Jones, which was nominated for three other awards including the client of the year and the Adapt Trust access award.

Other arts winners include The Lowry in Salford by Michael Wilford & Partners and The Dulwich Picture Gallery in south London by Rick Mather Architects.

Visitor attractions and museums figure, including MacCormac Jamieson Prichard’s work on the Science Musuem’s Wellcome Wing and the Dynamic Earth Centre in Edinburgh by Michael Hopkins and Partners. The Magna Centre visitor attraction in Rotherham was another winner, created by Wilkinson Eyre Architects. The inclusion of Explore @ Bristol in the awards gave Wilkinson Eyre a double success.

Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners was honoured for its work on eco-attraction The Eden Project.
