Wanted: Innovation in design

The Design Council is on the lookout for the UK’s most innovative and design-led small and medium-sized companies for this year’s European Design Prize. Both design consultancies and their clients can enter.

The biennial prize differs from the 1994 event as this time it is open to Sweden, Austria and Finland – countries which have since joined the European Union. Iceland and Norway are also taking part for the first time.

The prize was last won by German furniture manufacturer Vitra, Italian lighting company Luceplan, and Kompan, a Danish company specialising in playground equipment.

UK companies have until 20 May to enter the competition. The aim of the prize is to stimulate the awareness and use of design as an instrument of innovation and quality, and demonstrate design’s role.

The awards ceremony will take place in Paris in January 1997. For further information contact Judith Powling at the Design Council on 0171-839 6288.
