Wales and Wales, known for its street furniture designs including those for Canary Wharf, has won the 1996 Arts Foundation Po-Shing Woo Fellowship for furniture-making. ‘The award of 10 000 will go towards developing large-scale designs and research into using different media,’ says design partner Alison Wales. Works include the seating (pictured) made of oak and polished maple for the Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow. >

Colour 3D models can now be captured electronically by this new scanner. Developed by Frazer Designers, the scanner has a modelmaker sensor attached to a position-sensing arm and uses laser technology to scan, says a Frazer spokeswoman. ‘It will make scanning in animation, engineering and media much simpler and more efficient,’ she adds. The consultancy was briefed by electronic and software company 3D Scanners to come up with a small, light and stylish product.>
