Kugel celebrates World Service

One of Britain’s longest established broadcasting arms, the World Service, is gearing up for its 70th birthday on 19 December with, among other things, an anniversary logo designed by Kugel.

Unveiled in mid-December, initially to BBC staff only, the marque will be used on all material relating to anniversary parties and events that are taking place next year in cities as far afield as Mexico City and Kabul.

The logo itself features a multi-coloured ’70’ behind the World Service name, designed to suggest diversity and shout ‘celebration’, says BBC World Service on air and marketing publications managing editor Dionne St Hill.

The consultancy was briefed to reflect the diversity of the World Service rather than focus too much on the 70th anniversary, says Kugel business development director Claire Dee.

Kugel joint creative director, Marcus Bennett, who led the design work, says, ‘We had to design a vibrant logo while being sympathetic to the existing design.’
