Field lights up glass design

Richard Box (pictured), the artist in residence at Bristol University’s physics department, has scooped this year’s Bombay Sapphire glass design prize, winning £20 000.

His installation, Field, features 1301 fluorescent light tubes planted underneath an overhead power line. The electromagnetic fields from the cables light the tubes, creating a ‘beautiful, magical and sinister experience’, says Box.
