Does London really need another Dome?

Battersea Power Station brought life and energy to London. The proposals by Parkview to introduce entertainment and leisure facilities take life and energy away from London.

Providing Londoners with an entertainment complex consisting of an unnecessary number of cinemas and a permanent circus act, plus the predictable leisure activities, is grotesquely unimaginative. It is also outrageously disrespectful both to Londoners and the spirit of the original structure.

Empowerment is the key. What most Londoners need is cheaper housing in the centre of London and cheaper premises for new businesses. To this end, Battersea Power Station is the perfect venue to create a new quarter, where inexpensive entertainment and leisure is secondary to what is really required. Do we really need another Dome?

Is it not the job of the London Mayor to intervene in these situations? Urban development should not just be about bringing extra revenue to the city. London is one of the most expensive places on this earth – no one gets what they pay for. It’s about time the city gave something back.
