Factory makes noise for Tannoy

Loudspeaker giant Tannoy has launched a new range of products, created by London product design group Factory Design, as part of a bid to develop a coherent “design language” across its product portfolio.

The Dimension speakers, developed by Factory creative director Gavin Thomson, replace an existing Tannoy range. They feature trapezoid cabinets, with no parallel sides. This is deemed to enhance acoustic performance, while linking back to the company’s design heritage.

The five products so far in the range feature Tannoy’s Dual Concentric technology to give superior sound quality and high-end tweeters. They combine cherrywood on the casing with polished aluminium for the acoustic components. They are set on enlarged conical feet to give “pinpoint” contact with the ground and reduce vibration.

According to Factory partner Peter Tennent, the Dimension range is the result of a “growing” relationship with Tannoy. The consultancy is working to give greater coherence to the manufacturer’s product ranges.
