MTV Europe gets animated
An in-house graphic design team from MTV has created a print identity for the third MTV Europe Music Awards, working in conjunction with animation agency Pizazz Pictures which has designed the on-air devices.
The awards ceremony will be held at London’s Alexandra Palace on 14 November.
The logo, to be used on stationery, posters and a promotional watch, is based on a television test card. It is designed by MTV senior vice-president – creative Peter Dougherty, art director John Critchley and designer Nic Charavet.
“We used the test card as a starting point,” says Critchley, adding that Pizazz’s on-air animation shows creatures which “live in a test card world”.
The in-house team designed the print identity for the 1995 awards, and French designer Eric Coignoux designed on-air animation. Comic illustrator Rian Hughes designed a brochure
(DW 15 December 1995).
