Virgin names design team for cinemas

Design Clinic and Leeds consultancy Watson Design have jointly beaten Rodney Fitch and Company and Fitch to design graphics and interiors for three major Virgin cinema projects.

The credentials pitch took place last month (DW 2 February). Rodney Fitch and Company has already designed a logo and signage for the MGM chain which was bought by the Virgin Group last year (DW 28 July 1995).

This logo will be “probably be tweaked” by Design Clinic, confirms creative director David Dragon.

The brief is split into three projects: rebranding of the MGM chain to be completed by the summer; graphics and interiors for three new multiplexes which will go on-site this year; and the “cinema of the future”, which is two years away. The two consultancies will appoint an architect for the third project.
