Function must be design’s first aim
Being a junior graphic designer in my second year of work I have learned a lot about the industry.
Recently, I was researching design groups on the Web. One group had a beautiful website, a client list to die for and some mouth watering visuals.
The next day we received some stock photography packages from a client of this design group. We opened them to find that the package was beautifully designed. However, all but one binder fell apart as soon as you opened them and the other one was so hard to flick through you could not appreciate the photography inside.
It is so easy to design something for design’s sake when the priorities should have been with the end user.
