This Is Studio builds online showcase todisplay Rankin’s photography and film work

The Rankin and Rankin Film sites, set to launch in August, will host the photographer’s portfolio and showcase his film work.

Rankin had asked the competing groups to consider a magazine look and feel at pitch stage – an approach trialled by This Is Studio – before a ’simple and intuitive’ direction was developed with a carousel navigation ’to flick through photographs’, according to Richard Barnett, partner with the consultancy. Rankin says, ’We found that a magazine approach was unnecessary as people only really want to look at the work.’

A ’lightbox’ feature allows users to select and export photographs in a presentable format and keyboard arrow navigation is encouraged to flick rapidly through a portfolio of 100 images, selected from 15 categories.

The Rankin and Rankin Film sites may be hosted on separate domains with the same navigation and appearance, says Barnett, although Rankin will be on black and Rankin Film on grey. ’We’re looking at ways of connecting them as one entity – giving people the choice of which way to go as they come into the sites,’ says Barnett.

’Film is a massive part of what we do and I wanted people to be able to flick between the sites easily,’ says Rankin, who is beginning to look into the design of app and iPad platforms for further portfolio options.
