Life’s a great crack up North

Elderly ladies in Newcastle-upon-Tyne received rather a bum deal with this new poster designed by local group Yellow M for The Tanning Shop.

The client wanted to promote a radical sunbed which promises to eradicate that Bermuda Triangle with a sunbed designed in an upright position, thus avoiding the traditional white sweaty rear end.

“The local newspapers got people’s reactions to the posters, and lots of old ladies thought they were absolutely disgusting,” says Yellow M designer Ben Quigley.

Fortunately, reactions from young women – the main target market – have not reached rock bottom. “It’s an unusual way of appealing to women without using the stereotypical image of their own bodies, and a nice bum does the trick,” says Quigley.
