New business role at Cairnes for Murphy

Cairnes has created a new management position with the appointment of its first new business development manager.

Cairnes has created a new management position with the appointment of its first new business development manager.

The move is part of a plan to enable the consultancy’s existing directors to focus more effectively on other areas of the business by freeing up their workloads.

Michael Murphy took up his new position at the multidisciplinary design group on Monday, having held the same job at Holmes & Marchant for the past six months.

He replaces Julian Le Maistre, who recently joined Cairnes from Gyro, but left after three days. Cairnes director Barry Semark declines to comment on the reasons behind his departure.

Murphy will be responsible for developing further business with existing clients and for identifying new business opportunities in branding, identity and literature. He will work alongside Cairnes directors Semark and Richard Tomlin.

Semark says: “New business activity has largely been through the three directors, but it’s got to the point where we needed a single person to handle it all. The directors will now be able to concentrate on other areas of the business.”
