Grieg & Stephenson has created interiors for Selfridges’ latest addition to its Oxford Street flagship, the Base Bar, which opened last week. The 93m2 bar is adjacent to the HMV department, which was also designed by Grieg & Stephenson and which led to its appointment for the bar. Selfridges gave the consultancy a written brief to create an environment that was fresh and funky, clubby and in keeping with the HMV space, associate director Howard Bates says. ‘It has got quite a subterranean, nightclub feel,’ he adds.
