Big thank you for potential sofa-lenders

Following on from my letter seeking sofas for our stand at The Design Show (DW 9 October), I have been overwhelmed with the response from students, designers, manufacturers and even retailers.

We had some amazing offers – Edd China’s street legal sofa car was perhaps the most bizarre – while student Frances Lawson’s painted sofa was certainly the most colourful.

Ikea at Thurrock even offered to lend us anything it had in the store, but we reckoned the Tories had already been there.

But, at the end of the day, we were swayed by good design which came with the advantages of locality and availability and chose a cool and classic design from Hitch Mylius. My thanks to Karen Sear of HM for all her help.

Which just leaves me wondering why more of these talented designers and manufacturers do not look more closely at the exhibition furniture rental business. It’s about time there was some real furniture choice for exhibition designers.
